(Atlanta, GA August 2, 2005) – TurboChef Technologies, Inc., (NASDAQ: OVEN) founded in 1991, has developed and introduced user-friendly series of high-speed ovens utilizing proprietary combinations of heating technologies that cook at faster speeds than conventional ovens, while maintaining and surpassing the quality of food produced. The technology creates a shroud of hot air that surrounds the food allowing for the faster cooking time while retaining the dish’s natural juices. The result is a meal with enhanced flavor and more moisture prepared up to twelve times faster than conventional ovens.
Commercial kitchens have been the first to benefit from TurboChef’s technological and culinary foresight with three different speed-cooking ovens: the C3, the Tornado™ and the High h Batch. These easy-to-use ovens can cook multiple products up to twelve times faster and have the ability to bake, brown, broil and roast. The ovens are ventless, lowering the cost of installation and operation. With a strong demand for cooked-to-order meals and the desire to provide customers with high-quality food, TurboChef ovens have infused the commercial marketplace with redefined notions of time, value, and superior product.
In March of 2004, TurboChef announced an agreement with Subway® restaurants to be the exclusive supplier of speed cook ovens to the company’s more than 20,000 restaurants worldwide. Meeting the growing consumer desire for toasted sandwiches, the ongoing relationship between Subway and TurboChef marked the largest commercial oven rollout in history. In late 2004, Starbucks signed a Master Purchase Agreement with TurboChef and has been conducting a market test of their hot breakfast items in our Tornado™ ovens in Washington DC. Culinary superstars such as Charlie Trotter have also experienced TurboChef’s cutting-edge technology and discovered how the ovens deliver top quality and time-efficient results unlike any other product on the market.
Building upon its commercial success, TurboChef will translate the innovative technology to fit the needs of the home cook with the introduction of the company’s first ever residential model to be released in spring 2006. The new luxury, haute-culinary addition to the home kitchen will revolutionize the concepts of both time and cooking with an exciting new design that is stylish and accessible. Consumers will be able to easily adapt their favorite recipes with the user-friendly control. Both the design and name will pay tribute to the modern, sleek, and unparalleled technology providing home cooks with gourmet food and the time to share it with friends and family. With its stylish design and incomparable efficiency, the residential model is destined to become a vital ingredient for every home chef.
The TurboChef ovens utilize a system of cooperating technological functions that include a heated forced high-speed air impingement, an infra-red irradiant browning element, a catalytic converter that recycles the air, and a wave of dual microwave energies. These elements work together to create the shroud of hot air that allows for the faster cooking time and enhanced quality. While diners were once required to order soufflés at the beginning of a meal given the required cooking time in a conventional oven, the TurboChef oven produces a perfect soufflé in approximately three minutes. Similarly, a pepperoni pizza that once took ten minutes to cook, now takes one minute, fifteen seconds, and a perfectly browned and juicy Filet Mignon drops from thirteen minutes, thirty seconds, to three minutes, thirty seconds. TurboChef saves the cook time and produces the same or better quality food with 20% more moisture retention.
With the acquisition of TurboChef Technologies Inc. by a group of investors led by Richard Perlman and Jim Price in October of 2003, the newly appointed management team and Board of Directors has enthusiastically expanded this revolutionary technology designed to enhance peoples lifestyles. TurboChef was listed for trading with the symbol “OVEN” on the NASDAQ National Market effective Monday, June 20, 2005; it was previously traded as “TCF” on the American Stock Exchange.
